More than 100 crosses were burned along road-sides in this section of Alabama last night and dozens of crosses were burned across South Carolina. A hooded man told Highway Patrolman Roy Jemison here last night that the cross-burnings were originally scheduled for Friday night, the night a boy threw a Molotov cocktail at a synagogue by shooting two members of the Gadsden congregation.

Here as well as throughout South Carolina, hooded members of the Ku Klux Klan circulated freely in many towns the last two nights. Calhoun County Sheriff Roy Snead, here, reported he has questioned about 12 men. There have been no arrests in connection with the burning of the crosses.
