Mayor William Broening of Baltimore and Rabbi Louis J. Schwefel of Washington, D. C., were the spokesmen for a small delegation which appeared before President Hoover yesterday to suggest the name of Maurice Bisgyer of Baltimore as assistant secretary of labor. Senator Goldsborough of Maryland arranged the appointment with the President who indicated his interest in the proposal, but informed the delegation that be intended to make no changes in the department of labor until the Fall elections.
Rabbi Schwefel recalled to the President Mr. Bisgyer’s affiliation with the Republican National Committee under Representative Franklin Fort, as well as his appointment by Secretary of the Interior Wilbur to membership on the National Advisory Committee on Education. Mr. Bisgyer, though a resident of Baltimore, is now secretary of the Jewish Community Center of Washington, and vice-president of the National Association of Jewish Community Centers’ Secretaries.
President Hoover asked for more complete information concerning Mr. Bisgyer’s qualifications and advised the delegation to submit a memorandum on the subject. In addition to Mayor Broening and Rabbi Schwefel the delegation was composed of state senator Harry O. Levine and Joseph A. Heilperin of Baltimore and Isaac Gans of Washington.
