Horace Samuel of London, noted barrister who has been retained by the defense, appeared in court today for the first time in the hearing of the Revisionists accused of the murder of Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, noted Zionist labor leader. Mr. Samuel has not as yet taken an active part in the defense. He has merely taken notes and consulted with defense attorneys, but has not spoken in court.
More witnesses testified today in the effort to establish an alibi for Abraham Stavsky, one of the three defendants. Arieh Vorbel testified that he had eaten in a Jerusalem restaurant on the night of June 16, the night of the murder, and had seen Stavsky there at 8:30 that evening. At 8:45 Vorbel and Chaim Bochorov had left the restaurant. Bochorov testified yesterday in Stavsky’s behalf.
Sara Rechtscheid, a former waitress in the restaurant, testified that she had noticed a stranger in the restaurant, who was conversing in Polish, and whom she later identified as Stavsky.
She explained that she had been unwilling to testify before, since she had entered Palestine illegally and wished to avoid any publicity. She had come forward now, she said, because she had married and her status as an immigrant was legalized.
The hearing was once more adjourned, this time until next week.
