A new two million volt X-ray therapy machine, one of the most powerful for the treatment of cancer in a general hospital, has arrived in New York for assembly at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, it was announced this week-end by Oscar M. Lazrus, hospital president.
Work on a three-level building in which the machine will be housed will begin following a cornerstone laying ceremony on Sunday, April 16. When the building is completed, Dr. Jacob J. Golub, executive vice president of the hospital, said, it will house three X-ray therapy machines; the two-million volt machine, and two of smaller capacity, which the hospital now has. The machine, made by the General Electric X-ray Corporation, will substantially increase the present treatment, research, prevention and training phases of the hospital’s cancer program.
