The House Appropriations Committee, in a further move to kill the FEPC, today reported out the original War Agencies Appropriations Bill with an amendment providing for $250,000 for complete liquidation of the FEPC.
A possibility of saving the agency, despite the parliamentary maneuvers by Southern Congressmen to kill it, was seen today in the promise of Rep. Everett M. Dirksen, Republican of Illinois, to introduce another amendment designed to commit the House to agreement with the Senate amendment to the bill. This provides $250,000 for the coming fiscal year without specifying that the appropriation must be used for liquidation of the FEPC.
