The House today quickly passed and sent to the President the Senate’s modified version of the Eisenhower Middle East Doctrine.

As finally approved by Congress, the resolution permits the President to spend $200,000,000 on economic and military aid in the area and states that this country is prepared to use armed force if necessary to repel Communist aggression.

Among other aspects, it also directs the President to “continue to furnish” assistance to the United Nations Emergency Forces stationed between Egypt and Israel. It further asks for pledges from recipient countries not to use military aid for aggression. The resolution does not deal with the Arab-Israel or Suez disputes.
