A letter from Secretary of State Cordell Hull demanding protection for German citizens in this country, was forwarded by Governor A. Harry Moore to County Prosecutor William Wachenfeld today. Governor Moore asked the prosecutor to investigate the matter, which resulted from the rioting between Nazis and anti-Nazis in Irvington and Newark on May 21 last.
Secretary Hull wrote in his letter that the German Embassy had complained of an alleged physical attack on Albert Jung, a German citizen, during the street fighting that took place at that time.
Hull expressed the hope “that appropriate measures will be taken to insure German nationals proper protection.”
