Vice-President Humphrey tonight praised the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, which he called “the world’s greatest charitable organization” with greater financial resources at its command than any other private charity. The Vice-President spoke at a dinner of the Federation’s Brooklyn division celebrating the Federation’s current, 50th anniversary highlighting its $27 million maintenance campaign for 130 health, welfare and community agencies serving more than 1,350,000 New Yorkers.
Mr. Humphrey hailed the “creative and enduring impact that the Federation has on the lives of downtrodden people of all faiths.” “In a world still torn by racial and religious tensions, you have given unblemished expression to the highest Judeo-Christian ideals of brotherhood among men,” he said.
Mr. Humphrey touched in his address on the war in Vietnam, the war on poverty and foreign aid. Praising the generosity of the American people, he cited as examples, contributions to “the Red Cross, the United Jewish Appeal, the Church World Services, the Catholic Relief Services, Care and many other private organizations that have immeasurably strengthened the humanitarian impact of America in the world.”
