Hundreds of Jewish sages, cabbalists and Talmudists prayed yesterday at the graveside here of the “sage of Safed”–Rabbi Isaac Ben Solomon Lurie–who lived from 1534-1572. His teachings profoundly influenced mystical thought. A fundamental assumption of his thought was the unity of God and creation. He was reputed to have had supernatural powers and the neo-cabalistic movement which he launched had a vast impact on Jewish life.
