Hundreds of thousands of already drought-stricken Israelis were without water for several hours Tuesday when disgruntled workers at the state-owned water company cut off the supply. Among the cities affected were Tel Aviv, Herzliya, Beersheba and Beit Shemesh, with strikers saying they would next turn off the taps in Jerusalem. The job action by workers for Mekorot came after they walked off the job last month in a protest over wages and plans by the government to privatize the company.
