The presentation of “Abie’s Irish Rose,” the play which with its six year run on Broadway exceeded the record of all productions in New York, has encountered difficulties in Hungary’s capital.
The play is scheduled to open at the Metropolitan Theatre here. The police, having been informed of the intention of anti-Semitic students to demonstrate against the performance because it depicts Jews in what they regard as a favorable light, announced that special guard will be placed around the theatre on the opening night. In attacking the play the anti-Semitic press asserts that Ann Nichols, the author of the play, is a Jewess.
