Following a week of continuous anti-Semitic student riots, Friday, October 26th, was the first normal day, no anti-Jewish attacks being reported.
The duel between Deputy Bela Fabian and the Understate secretary Sztranyavszky was averted by an exchange of statements made at the parliament session. Minister of the Interior Szitovsky declared himself satisfied with the statements made.
However, duelling which is fashionable in Hungary, was not abandoned, A series of duels are now scheduled between Jewish and nationalistic students, in some cases it having been decided that the issue be fought not with pistols or swords, as is the national custom, but a la Amerique, with boxing gloves, The first “American duel” ever fought in Hungary between a Jewish and an anti-Semitic student ended when both fell with exhaustion, declaring afterwards that the “satisfaction” sought had not been attained. The foes remained unreconciled.
