The Hungarian colleges closed last week because of the continuous anti-Jewish riots in protest against the admission of additional numbers of Jewish students will be reopened Wednesday, November 7, it was announced here today.
The announcement was made following a conference between Count Klebelsberg, Minister of Education, and the heads of all Hungarian colleges and universities. It is understood that the heads of the institutions of learning, as well as the leaders of the student organizations, have taken upon themselves the responsibility for the protection of law and order in the classrooms. This was demanded of them as a condition for the reopening of the schools.
Simultaneously, the nationalistic students’ organizations announced that they will issue an appeal to the Hungarian people, to the government and parliament, demanding the continued application of the numerus clausus law limiting the number of Jewish students.
