The policy inaugurated some time ago in Hungary to deprive Jewish owners of their land possessions is being pursued vigorously, it is reported here in despatches from Budapest.
A case in point is that of the decision by the court concerning the land of the Jewish family, Mandel, in Moko. By this decision the family lost its land estate, which was held for 51 years. In stating the reasons for the decision the court argued that the forefathers of the present owners were not full-fledged peasants because they were also classified as teachers in the local public school. The court also ordered a new appraisal of the property as the previous estimate was considered too high.
