The Hungarian Government today promulgated the decree setting up a Jewish Rehabilitation Fund with the proceeds of property belonging to Jews who died heirless. Within 15 days the Orthodox and Liberal Jewish communities must submit to the government their recommendations for president and vice-president of the Fund. Within a week after such nominations are received an administrative board, including Protestant and Roman Catholic members, will be named.
A public forum on Zionism to acquaint the general public with the aims and purposes of the movement was held here yesterday, since the local press devotes very little space to Zionist activities and the Allied Control Commission has still not granted permission for publication of a Zionist paper. Speakers included leading Zionist and non-Zionist spokesmen, including Communists and Socialists and leaders of the left-wing Jewish groups.
