For the first time in its history the Hungarian Jewish community paper “Uj Elet” has attacked a State organ, namely, the State-controlled Hungarian television network.
The Jewish paper, rapped the TV for having portrayed a former SS member of Hungarian origin as “a poor victim of circumstances.” The TV program depicted the man’s life and how he eventually found himself an SS member and repented after the war. The Jewish paper deplored the 20-minute program and asked: “How is it possible that a former SS member could obtain favorable publicity in a Socialist state?”
