Dr Bela Fabian, one-time Hungarian Jewish community leader and a member of the Hungarian Government-in-exile, won a $100,000 libel suit yesterday against the Hungarian language newspaper “Egyleti Elet.”
Dr. Fabian charged that the newspaper had libeled him in two articles, published in December 1949 and January 1950, which described him as a “traitor to Jewry” and conveyed the impression that he had served as a foreman of forced laborers at the Nazi Buchenwald camp where he was a prisoner. Dr. Fabian was a member of the Hungarian Parliament for 17 years.
