A demand that the perpetrators of the anti-Jewish riot in Miskolc last week, during which two Jews were lynched and a Jewish police officer beaten to death, be arrested immediately and executed if proven guilty, was made today in Parliament by a Jewish deputy named O. Anti. He also demanded arrest of the police who made no attempts to curb the disturbance.
Replying, Premier Ferenc Nagy assured Hungarian Jews that they need not fear for their lives and that every effort will be made to prevent further attacks on Jews. Later, Anti told the JTA that Nagy had assured him privately that while measures against the Miskolc guilty will take some time, they will be “ruthless.”
Laszlo Stoeckler, president of the Jewish Community Council, has decided to postpone his scheduled trip to London for conferences with Jewish leaders, because of the disturbed situation here.
