The Hungarian Parliament today adopted a bill setting up a Jewish Rehabilitation Fund, from the proceeds of property left by hairless Jews. The bill was adopted unanimously.
Speakers representing different political parties expressed sympathy for the Jews who suffered under the Nazis. The leader of the majority Small Holders Party emphasized that “Hungarian farmers were never anti-Semites.” Leaders of the Social Democratic and other labor parties emphasized that their groups always opposed anti-Semitism and that the workers in Hungary ignore religious differences.
Jewish Deputy H.R. Odeen thanked Parliament for passing the bill without any opposition and expressed hope that “this serious stop” will improve the situation of the Jews who suffered most under the previous regime.
