Budapest Chief Rabbi Miklos Mate called on Hungary’s Jews to celebrate the Passover festival “as their ancestors did” and to remember that it commemorates “the liberation of the Jews from Pharaoh’s rule thousands of years ago.” The Chief Rabbi’s address was broadcast by the Hungarian radio at prime listening time.
Rabbi Mate also said “Many years have passed since the Egyptian exodus but the great desire by the Jewish people for liberty is still alive.” The Chief Rabbi stressed that the Jews have always wanted a “world free from suppressions and after the second World War this demand has become more intense. The Jews are trying to create such a hate-free world.”
