Faced by world-wide revulsion as a result of disclosure of the German-Hungarian offer to spare the estimated 400,000 Jews remaining in Hungary in exchange for non-military supplies from the Allies, the semi-official Hungarian Telegraph Agency today denied that such a proposal had been made. Although the report of the negotiations have been corroborated by reliable Allied sources, the Hungarian press agency denounces it as a “malicious rumor.”
Meanwhile, it was learned here today that 800 Budapest Jews who possess exit visas face the prospect of sharing the fate of the bulk of Hungarian Jewry unless they can get out of the country by August 1. The Nazi Transkontinent Press reports that the visas issued to these Jews will be invalidated at the end of this month. The possessors of the visas, although compelled to wear a yellow star, have not been otherwise molested.
