Hungary no longer permits the emigration of Jews to Israel, Moshe Shapiro, Israeli Minister of Interior, Health and Immigration, today told a press conference here. Even the emigration of 3,000 Jews under an existing Israeli-Hungarian agreement is meeting with difficulties, he declared.
On the other hand, emigration from Rumania to Israel has increased, the Minister reported. Jewish emigration from Poland is in its last stages, he revealed, adding that there are today about 42,000 Jews left in Poland, most of whom do not think in terms of emigrating to Israel. Nevertheless, Israel will admit 120,000 immigrants within the next four months–the largest immigration record in the history of the Jewish state–he pointed out. Most of the newcomers will be Jews from Iraq and Rumania, he said.
