The Hungarian Supreme Court today handed down a ruling ordering German firms in Hungary who had dismissed their Jewish employees under the Nazi “Aryan paragraph” to pay damages.
PFA, well-known German film company which dismissed its Hungarian Jewish workers, was ordered to pay damages. The judges ruled that the “Aryan paragraph” could not be held to apply in Hungary. The competence of the courts in dealing with the matter was upheld, despite claims of German attorneys to the contrary.
Jewish transport workers employed by the Budapest muncipality were fined three days pay due to absence from work on Rosh Hashonah and Yom Kippur. Christian Socialist trade union officials demanded the deduction and municipal officials complied.
