Premier Julius Goemboes has told the Lower Chamber of Parliament that the Government is planning to reduce the proportion of Jewish workers in certain industries where they “predominate.”
He stated that the Government did not intend to raise the Jewish question, but feared that Jewish predominance in certain occupations might arouse unrest.
The statement was made in explanation of the inclusion of a question on religion in a compulsory questionnaire for workers. Employees must state religion on pain of fines.
The questionnaire, he said, would be used to obtain reliable data on the basis of which the Government could reach an amicable understanding for employment of more Hungarians in industries where Jews now predominate.
