Several hundred men and women gathered today before the headquarters of the Famine Relief Committee here demonstrating in a demand for immediate aid.
Police had to be called to disperse the crowd.
The capital of Bessarabia has in the last few days been overcrowded with refuges from the famine zone in the province. The relief work undertaken by local institutions, government and municipal agencies has proved insufficient to cope with the growing demand for bread.
