Fears were expressed today that as a result of the drought in the Ukraine which adversely affected crops, Jewish regions in the Ukraine, particularly Kalininsdorf and Stalinsdorf, will suffer from hunger this winter. Earlier reports stated that some of the crops in the Jewish regions stood so low on the fields that it was impossible to harvest them by modern machinery.
At the same time it was stated that due to extraordinary methods pursued in getting in what harvest there was there would be no hunger.
Today’s Soviet papers suggest that irrigation for the fields is imperative.
