A number of Jews from France have succeeded in reaching Spain in a attempt to escape deportation to Nazi-held territory by fleeing to Portugal from where they intend to emigrate to overseas lands, it was reported here today.

These reports state that in the neighborhood of Pau, in the unoccupied pars of France, not far from the Spanish frontier, Jews are being hunted in the cornfield where they are hiding in the hope of being able to cross into Spain at night. The same reports confirm that arrests of Hungarian and Rumanian Jews are now proceeding in Paris on a large scale following “authorization” by the Hungarian and Rumanian governments, permitting the arrest of their Jewish nationals in France.
