Joseph C. Hyman, secretary of the Joint Distribution Committee and honorary secretary of the United Jewish Appeal, speaking at a community-wide conference of the workers in the drive for this relief effort for German Jewry tonight, declared:
“I do not see how any Jew, worthy of the name, can hold back in this crisis. What is happening is not merely a denial of justice to the Jews of Germany, but a direct and brutal mass attack upon an innocent people, and even more so an insidious assault upon the position of our people everywhere. This is a situation that affects not merely our coreligionists in Germany; it affects us and our children. It is a challenge to us as human beings and as free people everywhere.”
Mr. Hyman was the guest at a dinner, prior to the meeting, of the administrative committee of the campaign.
