The conference of the Independent Order of B’nai B’rith to organize the I. O. B. B. campaign for $2,000,000 to be devoted to relief and cultural work elected Henry Monsky of Omaha, Neb., as permanent chairman of the B’nai B’rith wider scope committee which will conduct the drive. Henry A. Alexander of Atlanta, Ga., was elected vice-chairman, and Leonard H. Freiberg, secretary. An advisory board consisting of Dr. Boris D. Bogen, national campaign director, Charles Hartman of New York and Hon. Adolph Kraus of Chicago was also elected.
The Wider Scope Committee will immediately set to work appointing district, state and local committees to conduct the campaign on a nation-wide scale. The plan of the campaign outlined at Sunday’s session at the Chicago Beach hotel was adopted in full today The plan apportions 50 per cent of the funds collected to the budget of the Hillel Foundation over a period of five years, the balance to be divided evenly and devoted to the B’nai B’rith Palestine housing program, the Anti-Defamation League, the Aleph Zadek Aleph, and cultural and relief work among Jews in Mexico.
According to present expectations, active work in the campaign will be begun early in October.
The second session of the conference was featured by addresses on “cultural activities” by Rabbi Samuel Mayerberg, a description of the work and requirements of the A. Z. A., by Samuel Beber, and a description of B’nai B’rith work in Mexico, by Rabbi Martin Zielonka.
At the dinner ending the deliberations of the delegates tonight, Adolph Kraus, former president of the Order, delivered an address.
