The seventy-fourth annual convention of District No. 1, Independent Order B’nai B’rith, comprising the lodges of New York, New England and Eastern Canada, will open today at the Astor Hotel under the chairmanship of Bertram M. Aufsesser, president of the district.
Over 200 delegates representing 90 lodges in the district are expected to attend the convention. Reports of the activities of the Order, which had its beginning in New York City and grew to a powerful factor in Jewish life in many states, will be submitted.
An elaborate program has been prepared for the convention, including a banquet which will take place today at the Astor Hotel in honor of Alfred M. Cohen, president of the Order. Many prominent New York Jewish citizens are expected to attend the banquet which will serve as the occasion for presenting a plea for Jewish unity in America.
