The International Refugee Organization deadline for DP’s to obtain new identification documents has been extended until Aug. 31 because only a small percentage of the DP’s have obeyed the order which is intended to be used by the Italian authorities as a means of more effectively policing the refugees.
All the equipment of a school operated by the Jewish Refuges Organization at the Bari camp for DP Jews has been donated to the Israeli Ministry of Education, it was announced here today, The school was established in southern Italy in 1945 and has been used by a great number of refugees. As the refugee population of Italy declines under the impact of the immigration move to Israel, the school’s usefulness in this country is at an end.
