The steamer “Albano” has just left Marseilles for Odessa with a cargo of plantation supplies acquired by the headquarters of the Jewish Colonization Association (Ica) for the use of the old and new Jewish colonies in Russia. The consignment consists of 400,000 vine-grafts and a substantial quantity of seeds. It is one of a series which, with the arrival of Spring, the Ica has undertaken to send to Russia in order to provide the colonies with seeds, machinery and tools.
The goods recently despatched include a large supply of material intended for the construction of houses in the new colonies founded by the Ica-240 tons of sheet iron for roofing, several hundred cases of window glass, pots of paint, barbed wire for fencing, etc.
The Ica has also acquired in America 53 tractors, plows and harvesting machines and two car-loads of Sudan grass seed. The goods have just arrived at Odessa, and will be followed soon by various other implements for the use of the Jewish vine-growers. In Russia the purchases and deliveries went on without a break all through the winter. Since August 1, 547 carloads of seed, fodder, cattle, building timber, etc., have been purchased and sent to the colonies.
