In response to many demands received by the Ica from Eastern Europe, particularly from Lithuania, Poland and Carpatho-Russia, the Ica has decided to settle 100 families on its land in Brazil.
The first group consisting of 160 persons, of whom 100 come from Lithuania and 60 from Poland, including a Shochet, who has been engaged for the prospective colony, are already on their way to Brazil on board the “Formosa.” The emigrants on arrival in Brazil will find houses ready for them, their fields sown, and their farms stocked with live stock, and they will be able to start work immediately. This group will form a new colony known as the Baron Hirsch colony. If foundation will coincide with the 30th anniversary of Baron de Hirsch’s death.
In accordance with the decision of the General Council of the Ica. one of its members. M. Edouard Oungre. with his assistants, went specially to Havre in order to meet the emigrants on their embarkation on board the “Formosa.”
It was for the emigrants to be provided with kosher food, and will be enabled to observe their religious rices.
