A gala event honoring Ida Kaminska, world-famous Yiddish actress and star of the Yiddish Folk Theater in Warsaw, was staged here by the Hebrew Actors Union. The principal guest speaker at the event was Hersch Smoliar, of Warsaw, editor of Die Folkshtimme, the Yiddish newspaper published in Warsaw.
Miss Kaminska is currently visiting the United States. The Czech-made film, “The Shop on Main Street,” in which she plays the leading female role, received an “Oscar” last week as the best foreign film of 1965. In responding to addresses lauding her work, Miss Kaminska noted that the theater which she heads in Warsaw is being supported by the Polish Government.
