The first annual conference of all Jewish Fraternal Organizations in Illinois has been called for March 26, to be held at the Sherman Hotel. It will be an all day meeting. The conference is being sponsored by the Union of Jewish Fraternal Orders of Illinois, an organization formed by the ranking Grand Lodge officers of all the orders.
More than 170 lodges in Illinois, comprising a membership of more than twenty-five thousand Jews, will be represented by delegates at the conference.
“We are opposed to any ideas of external or internal merger of the orders,” Jacob W. Schwartz, president and one of the founders of the union declared in discussing the conference. “We merely feel that it is essential that the various fraternal organizations of this state get together and exchange ideas concerning our common problems. In addition, we will be in a position to make the fraternal organizations a more effective body in community affairs and in all matters concerning the Jews of Illinois, and all Jews in general.”
