The State Senate, by a vote of 34 to 11, yesterday adopted and sent to Governor Dwight Green a bill, previously passed by the House, barring aliens from 14 professions and occupations. The measure would prohibit issuance of licenses to practice even to refugee professionals who have filed declarations of intention to adopt American citizenship.
In a vigorous fight against the bill, Senator A. L. Morowit warned: “If the bill is passed, the democratic system in Lincoln’s state is endangered because that’s the way they started in Germany. Legislating against the refugee, representative of the groups who made America a free country, is criminal.”
An amendment to free eminent European physicians from the restrictions was defeated. The bill was supported by the American Legion and several other organizations.
