Ilya Ehrenburg, the famous 75-year-old Soviet Jewish writer, has been elected as a representative to the Supreme Soviet from the Bashkirian Republic, it was reported here today from Moscow.
The writer was also a member of the previous Soviet in which he served as a representative of the Latvian Soviet Republic. Latvia has a Jewish population of 50,000 but there are virtually no Jews in the Bashkirian Republic.
