A program for joint action by Jewish community centers and Jewish education workers has been approved in principle by the National Jewish Welfare Board, parent body of the centers, and the American Association for Jewish Education, it was announced here today by Frank L. Weil and Michael Stavitsky, presidents, respectively, of the two groups.
The program has also been approved by the National Association of Jewish Center Workers and the National Council for Jewish Education, the professional workers in the two fields. Members of the two organizations drafted the program and a statement of principles, which recommend the following steps:
1. Maximum coordination between Jewish educational agencies and Jewish centers on both local and national levels.
2. Full and maximum integration between Jewish centers and Jewish schools in at attempt to incorporate educational aspects into the center’s group work, and group activities into the school’s educational program. Also joint planning and cooperation in the fields of youth and adult education and group work.
3. A survey by a joint committee of professional training in both fields so that center workers will receive an adequate Jewish education and educators will get group work training. The committee should also look into similarly integrated training for volunteer leaders and lay members of boards and committees.
The statement also recommended coordination of activities in the fields of research, publications, public relations, school and center building and other fields there joint endeavor would result in an improved program.
