A new major discovery has been made at the famous diggings at Bet Shearim, between Haifa and Nahalal, the Israel Exploration Society announced today. Archaeologists have discovered a number of rooms and passageways carved out of solid rock and filled with scores of sarcophagi, many of them decorated. The excavations, now in their eighth year, have revealed many objects dating back to the period of the Second Temple, which was destroyed by the Romans.
