An imposter, pretending to represent an American Jewish relief committee, was arrested in Plubeshi, near Pinsk, and sentenced to three weeks in jail.
The imposter, going under the name of Dr. Kochman, called a meeting of the outstanding citizens of the village and promised to distribute $30,000 for relief purposes. He also announced that he would give medical treatment free. He received a number of patients, particularly women. He stated that he detected symptoms of tuberculosis among many of the women patients and advised the young women to proceed abroad for cure, for which purpose he was prepared to allocate a special fund. His actions aroused suspicion and he was confronted and cross-examined. He was arrested under the suspicion of conducting white slave traffic.
