Spectacular” improvement in the Middle East in the neat future, or in the next few years, is unlikely, according to Deputy Assistant Secretary of State John D. Jernegan. He made that statement in analyzing the Middle East situation before a committee of the American Legion national convention here. Mr. Jernegan, principal assistant to Henry A. Byroade, Assistant Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs, addressed the Legion as a substitute for Mr. Byroade, who is recuperating from an illness.
High officials of the American Legion last night attended special ceremonies dedicating the new National Shrine for Jewish War Dead here. They were guests of the officers and members of the executive committee of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States which built the Shrine and recently moved its national head-quarters there.
