In an effort to attract observant Jews to the police force, the chief police rabbi, together with the head of the criminal investigation division and scientists have checked out and accepted a number of sophisticated pieces of equipment to enable an Orthodox member of the force to fulfil his duties on the Sabbath. The equipment includes a small tape recorded with voice-activated microphone to replace the need to write, a special camera and fingerprinting equipment.
