Jews in the Arab countries in the Middle East are ?g subjected to steadily increasing official and unofficial pressure to support by Arab states war on partition of Palestine, according to reports reaching here ##.

Hundreds of Baghdad Jews are said to have “offered” to enlist in the anti?nist military forces which are reportedly formed. Large contributions to the fund ?finance warfare in Palestine have been made by Iraqi, Syrian and Lebanese Jews. ? Jews in Lebanon have contributed $25,000, while the Baghdad Jews have given even ?ger sums estimated in Baghdad papers to exceed $2,000,000.

Five Jews, arrested on Oct. 21 near the settlement of Elion for violating the Lebanese-Palestine frontier, have been given sentences ranging from two to three ?ars, and each fined the equivalent of $400. The Lebanese authorities charged that ?e Jews, who had protested that they had crossed the frontier unwittingly and were ?ly out for a walk, were all armed, and “lacked the required credentials.”
