In the course of the questioning of William J. Cameron, editor of the “Dearborn Independent,” on the third day running, Wednesday, Sapiro’s counsel, Gallagher, made what was understood to be an effort to bring out reference to a statement by Ford regarded as hedging on the part of Ford on his anti-Jewish articles. That statement as disclosed by files of “Farm and Fireside” was uttered by Ford in an interview with Andrew S. Wing, of that periodical, who reported of Mr. Ford (February, 1926 number of “Farm and Fireside”):
“Sometimes he goes too far. He told me that some of the articles about the Jews and cooperation in the ‘Dearborn Independent’ had been too severe.”
Evidently this was what Gallagher was aiming at when he began to question Cameron about Andrew S. Wing and Farm and Fireside. He was kept from his purpose by the Ford counsel shouting every moment, “We object.”
Now Gallagher will hold this weapon against the coming of Henry Ford himself to the witness stand, maybe next Monday.
