Expressing thanks to the Joint Distribution Committee and to the HIAS-ICA Emigration Association for relief work done hitherto for the 9,000 Jewish deportees from Baden and the Palatinate who are now held in barracks in the unoccupied France, a meeting of more than 1,000 immigrants from Baden, held last night in Mecca Temple, adopted a resolution urging the relief organizations to intensify their relief activities for the interned.
A collection made at the meeting for the purpose of establishing soup kitchens in Gurs, France, where the deportees are held, resulted in raising more than $2,500.
It was learned today that the J.D.C. has assigned $20,000 for aid to the deportees.
