Enrollment in Hebrew classes in New York City’s high schools increased by 13 percent this year, it was reported today by Judah Lapson, director of the Hebrew Culture Council.
Mr. Lapson addressed an audience of 1,400 persons attending the Council’s Golden “Ayin” Festival in which golden “Ayin” pins were presented to 160 students who excelled in Hebrew studies during the past year. Aviad Yafeh, Israel Consul in New York and director of the Israel Office of Information, represented the Israel Government at the festival and addressed the students in Hebrew.
