The Finance Ministry here is preparing a law to indemnify Germans who, in good faith, paid twice for properties of victims of Nazism.
These so-called “loyal purchasers” paid going-market prices for properties put on the market by the Nazis. The Nazi regime kept the money, instead of turning the proceeds over to the victims. Later, under Republic restitution laws, the “loyal purchaser” had to pay the victim, thus being subjected to double payments. The new law is designed to wipe out this inequity.
