Criticism of the British Government for its failure to make adequate military use of the Jews in Palestine was expressed today by the Manchester Guardian, leading liberal English newspaper, in an editorial dealing with the British policy in Palestine.
Pointing out that it is not the fault of the Jews that no greater war use is made of them in Palestine, the editorial says: “It is a mistake to be always talking as though only Arabs must be considered although undoubtedly the attachment of the Jews to the British side can always be assumed. If we raise the Arab question in connection with Syria as Minister Anthony Eden did, then we must remember that Palestine lies in the very heart of this problem. No settlement of the problem is conceivable which would not include the establishment of what Chief Rabbi Hertz called a Jewish National Home in a free Palestine where there will be no domination of Arab over Jew or Jew over Arab – An independent Jewish state is compatible with a Federation of Arab countries.”
