Official prohibition by the Indian Government of the import of German goods is urged in a motion submitted by the State Council of Ceylon, the Times of India reports. This would be the first instance of official government action on boycotting German goods.
The motion was based on the reason that German racial legislation affects also the Singhalese who cannot qualify as Aryan under the definition given the term by Nazi race theorists.
The German consulate in Colombo, Ceylon, has been put in a very embarassing situation since, in reprisal for the Nazi prohibition on German women dancing with colored men, the Singhalese propose to prohibit their women from dancing with Germans. This comes at a time when the German ### in the harbor of Colombo and a reception had been arranged for the officers of the ship. Now, leading citizens of the city propose to shun the reception and the German consul, thus far unsuccessfully, is attempting to smoothen over the conflict and allay popular resentment against the Germans.
