Prem Bhasin, leader of the Socialist Party of India, has attacked the exclusion of Israel from the Bandung conference. Writing in the Socialist Party publication, “Janata,” Mr. Bhasin hit the decision to bar Israel as “political expediency bordering on opportunism which, to say the least, does not add to the prestige” of the sponsors of the parley.
Mr. Bhasin noted that Israel had come into existence by decision of the United Nations and had been recognized by the major powers of the world, including India, had defended her independence and consolidated her position in the face of Arab attack and was located in Asia. Thus, he continued, on the basis of all the canons of international law, Israel was entitled to attend the parley.
